odd anthropology

It’s about time I added some Anthropology over here!

My friend Ivy has been a podcaster for many years. I have listened to each of her podcasts, and always enjoyed her storytelling, topics and creativity. We talked a few times over social media, and became friends, finding we had quite a bit in common. One of the interests we shared was Anthropology. I had graduated from college with a bachelors in Anthropology, and Ivy has been an archaeologist at heart for a very long time. She finally decided to pursue her degree, and is going to be starting school soon! (So proud and excited for her!) Ivy explained to me that she wanted to start a new podcast to explore her interests in anthropology and archaeology, and asked if I would be interested in contributing. I was really excited, and had been playing around with the idea of podcasting. I love listening to podcasts, and felt it would be really cool to share something with the world in that form. I didn’t feel like I was experienced or qualified enough to contribute, it has been 15 years since I graduated college, and have never had a job where I was really using my degree. But with Ivy’s encouragement, I pushed through the fear, and Odd Anthropology was born! I have really enjoyed the process of researching and sharing stories, and Ivy has done an incredible job creating our “brand”. Ivy painted what became our logo, and has done such an amazing job with the marketing, extra content for our pages, and editing the podcast.

We have four episodes out so far, exploring “frankensteined” mummies, anthropology hoaxes, and bog bodies. We have so many ideas for future episodes, and plan to put out new episodes monthly. As I get used to the process, and life settles down a bit (when will I learn, it never does) or I guess really that we find a good routine, we might try to increase our production. But that is for future Ivy and Taisha to figure out. Right now we are enjoying what we are creating, and it seems the world is too! You can find Odd Anthropology wherever you listen to podcasts, on Substack, Instagram, and YouTube (audio only).
